~ Eddie ~
“Have you had a pastie yet?” I pointed to a small building.
“A what? A pastie?”
“Oh, you haven’t lived until you have experienced one.”
I grabbed her hand and tugged her toward the little restaurant. We had been walking all day. The island was not huge but when on foot it felt like the roads went on and on forever. I was probably exaggerating.
“I feel like I've been eating all day,” she said and moaned.
“We can just head back to the hotel room?”
“No, it’s fine.”
When we arrived on the island, I decided we needed to stay at the fanciest hotel. Which meant we would need to get a room at the Grand Hotel. The place has 393 rooms and no two rooms were alike. It felt like you were at the White House with gorgeous pillars lining one side of the building.
There was one hiccup in the plan, they only had one room available when we arrived. We both were quiet on our way to the room earlier and I had a feeling Sarah was prolonging heading back now.
“Okay, prepare to have your mind blown.”
We were seated at a table by the big bay window. There was a horse-drawn carriage going by and several people checking out all the items in front of each shop.
“I’m surprised to see the island still so busy this time of year.”
“Well, Michiganders don’t think this is cold yet, so they prolong Summer for as long as they can.” It was true, sixty degrees was nothing.
I noticed her shiver. “Look, another person wearing shorts. Nope, too cold for me.”
She had on jeans, a sweatshirt, and a jacket. “Your Southern blood is still too thin. Just wait, in about a year you will wear shorts and complain you’re too hot.”
Sarah turned her head to the side. “A year, huh?”
“I guarantee it.”
The waitress arrived with our orders. “Okay, you take the first bite.”
She picked up her fork and gave me a side glance. “Do you like these?” She poked at the top a couple times.
“They’re my favorite.” I held my hand up. “Scout’s honor.”
She giggled and dug her fork down through the crust. As she took the first bite, I watched her face to see if I could tell if she was enjoying it or not. When she stopped chewing I may have gotten a little worried.
“Holy crap. This is amazing.”
“Yeah, you like?”
“Like? I love.”
“And now you have been initiated.”
“Does this mean I can call myself a Michigander?”
“Um…” I looked around.
She reached forward and placed her hand on mine. “I’m teasing.”
I loved this moment and knew right then and there I wanted more of them.
I wanted Sarah with an "H."
“You may need to roll me to the hotel. Why did you let me eat that last bite?” Sarah placed her hands on her stomach and grunted.
“I made you?”
“You said and I repeat, I double dog dare you.”
“Okay, I may have done that.”
She shoved me lightly. “I never back down from a dare.”
The moment the words left her mouth you could see her face turn red. “Oh really?” I teased.
“Well, I mean…”
“I’m kidding.” I grabbed her hand. “Come on.”
The sun was just setting on the horizon of Lake Michigan. There were boats off in the distance and several people on the beach throwing rocks in the lake or snuggled together on blankets. We made our way down the wooden steps to the beach area. I still had a hold of Sarah’s hand as we descended the stairs. I could feel her hold on my hand tighten.
“What? Oh yeah.”
We reached the landing, and I heard her exhale loudly. I looked back. “Now you’re okay?”
“Should we get someone to airlift you out?”
She visibly gasped. “Are you mocking my fear of stairs?”
She ran at me and tried to tickle my side. I jumped away and ran in the opposite direction. When I let her catch up we were both out of breath and collapsed on the sand.
I rolled onto my side and propped my head on my hand. The laughing died away. “What else are you afraid of?”
Her smile fell. “Um…”
“Sarah, please don’t say me.”
Her eyes went wide. “What? No.” She went quiet. “I’m afraid to go back to our room,” she whispered.
I sat up. “Sarah, I don’t expect anything from you. We are two adults that will each sleep in our own bed and that’s it.”
She sat up and faced me. “What if I don’t want that?”
“Then tell me what you want?”
We both sat there in the easy pose staring at each other. After about a minute she whispered, “You.”
“Me?” I knew at that moment I wanted her, too. We had spent a solid twelve hours together. She was honest. I was honest. What else did we need?
“Eddie…I’m scared because…you would be my first.” I went to say something, but she held her hand up. “Let me explain. The men I have been with were not for romantic reasons. They were more of a one night stand and they all ended up being a mirror image of my dad. I’ve had sex…I’ve just never experienced that special moment with a man.”
“But you have experienced that extreme pleasure before, right? There are other ways.”
“Um…yes and no. I feel uncomfortable trying that.”
Did she tell me she has never experienced an orgasm, and she felt uncomfortable pleasuring herself? How was that possible? Well, there was only one thing to do. I stood up and held my hand out for her to take. “Hop on.” I pointed to my back.
“What? No. I’ll hurt you.”
“I do this for a living. Come on.”
Sarah hopped on my back, then I took two steps at a time back up the stairs. When we reached the landing I had to pause for a moment to catch my breath.
She placed her hand on my shoulder. “Are you okay?”
I grabbed her hand and increased my pace. The hotel was about ten yards away and I wanted to be in our room like ten minutes ago.
“Eddie. Why are you rushing?”
“Because I can’t wait another minute.”
“To have you in my bed.”
~ Sarah ~
At the entrance to the hotel I stopped. “Wait, Eddie.”
He stepped closer. “What’s wrong?”
“I…I don’t know.” Of course I was lying, I did know. The thought of having sex with Eddie scared the shit out of me.
He reached his hand up and circled it around the back of my neck. “I’m sorry. I let my emotions get the better of me. We don’t need to rush this.”
I placed my hand on his cheek. “No, please don’t apologize. I want what happens between us to be perfect.”
Eddie placed his hands lightly on the side of my neck just below my ears. “I have to do this now.”
“This,” he said and bent to kiss my lips.
The moment we touched it was like waves crashing on the shore or fireworks going off all around us. I realized at that moment this thing between us was real.
I stepped back and stared at him for a moment. “Tell me you felt that, too?”
A little smile emerged. “What?”
His smile was telling. I knew he was messing with me. I did a bold move and placed both my hands on either side of his face to bring him closer. “Eddie, what am I going to do with you?” Then I kissed him. The delicate pecks soon became more heated and a little moan slipped from my throat.
He was out of breath. “Sarah, can we go to the room now?”
Our mouths were only a half inch apart and I could feel the warmth of his breath. His body was molded to my mine and there was this beautiful feeling on my belly. I felt like I knew Eddie after our wonderful day exploring. Now my plans were to get to know the parts of Eddie that were hidden behind layers of fabric.
“We really should get to the room,” I said and ran my hands through his hair.
He placed his hands over mine. “One condition.”
“We both agree to stop when we feel uncomfortable.”
“No pressure.” I finished his sentence.
“Exactly,” he said and held up his hand. “Pinky swear?”
I grabbed his pinky with my own and shook. “Yes, I swear.”
We stood there for a few more minutes. Finally, I grabbed his hand and finished the tugging process into the Grand Hotel. It was around dinner time, so the place was filled with people walking in all different directions. I felt like all eyes were on us as we made our way to the elevator. He had my hand and kept it tucked in between his own behind his back.
“Do think anyone else is skipping dinner tonight, too?” he whispered.
“I don’t know. Right now I feel like everyone is judging us.”
“They’re just jealous.”
“So,” Eddie said and advanced on me the moment I locked the door.
I didn’t look at what was behind me, I moved backwards trying to get away. “So, what?” He had this look in his eyes that made my insides swirl with excitement. “Eddie?”
Just as I was about to say something my body backed into the dresser right at the middle of my thighs. “Shit,” I said and then promptly went into the sitting position. “Eddie, wait.”
He stepped away from me. “Too much?”
I could see his smile fall and in its place was worry. Reaching for his hand. “No.” I stood up and left only an inch separating us. “I don’t know. Like my emotions are not anything I have ever felt before.”
Eddie pulled me close to his body and wrapped his arms around me. “Sarah, I want you, I do. For tonight, let’s just lay together, okay?”
The moment the words left his lips I felt a huge sigh of relief. As much as I thought I was in control of my emotions and prepared to have sex. I really wasn’t.
Memories of my last time ran through my mind, which made me flinch. I didn’t think I physically flinched, I thought it was just in my memory. Then Eddie bent to be eye level with me. “What really happened, Sarah?”
I stepped away from him. Leaving the warmth of his body made me want to cry. Rifling through my bag to find my pajamas. “It’s nothing. I swear.”
He bent down beside me and reached for my hand to stop me. “Sarah, I can see the look on your face. I know it’s not nothing.”
“Let me get changed.” I needed air. Closing the bathroom door behind me, I sat down on the edge of the tub. As the memory continued to surface, I could feel my body get angrier. It was time to let go. These memories were not welcome anymore. I threw on my fleece pants with cats holding a heart scattered all over the legs. Then I contemplated keeping my bra on but squashed that thought immediately. Eddie was sitting on the edge of the bed and stood up as I emerged from the bathroom. “I’m sorry,” I said and stepped closer to him.
“No, please don’t apologize.”
“Let me say this, okay?”
He took his fingers and pretended to lock his lips and throw away the key.
“Will you hold me tonight? Maybe we can talk.”
Eddie nodded and reached his hand out. “Come on, baby.”
Did he call me baby? The moment he said it my body reacted.
